LA SELLA GOLF, "THE SCOTTISH TOURNAMENT"

The morning after the night before at the Burns Supper and what a night! The next morning was not too bad either. With a chill in the air but beautiful sunshine we could not have asked for a clearer day for golf. Teams had, yet again, a truly international feel to them all and with the promise of some lovely Haggis and Scottish Style "Tapas" for the "Apres Golf" everyone went off in good spirits.
With the Piper, Drew Wilson, setting everyone off and then being taken around the holes to cheer people on by piping it was a tremendous day and all the golfers got into the spirit of the occasion. The scores, prizes, food and entertainment were enjoyed as players and guests warmed up in the Club House. Thank you to the Denia Marriott for providing the fabuous "Scottish Tapas".

Great to see so many players out in January when people are still away and recovering from the New Year!!!
Ten international teams of golfers went out into the lovely sunshine for a really good day out on the course. Thanks, once again, to Oliva Nova for the course being in good condition and for a great Sunday Lunch.
The winning team returned with a good score of net 59.7 and consisted of: Fernando Mas, Sally Burrows, Arthur Burrows and Salvador Parra. In second place with a net score of 59.9, a team that some may recognise and getting back to winning ways, Dave Thomas, Errol Heath, John and Pam Beavis. Third with a net score of 60.4: Jeff Morrow, Kevin Waterland, Alan Turpin and Martin Shaw. Fourth place with a net 63.1, Vicente Plaza Navarro, Vicente Oltra Tur and Vicente Verdu.

After the heavy rain the team at Oliva Nova did a fabulous job in actually getting the course open and playable so hats off to them. We had a very good field of 66 golfers and, once again, a real mix of nationalities which absolutely makes the Texas Scramble and adds to the enjoyment and success of the day.
Considering the conditions the scores were really very good. First place Team DGB: nett 61.3, David Gardner- Brown, Jan Gardner-Brown, Andy Bailey and Sue Bailey. Second a well known and regular foursome with nett 63.0, Team Ivory: James, Ivory, Mark Ivory, Peter Dymyd and Rafe Parker. Third and fourth places went to our Spanish friends with a nett 63.4, Team Palaganas: Isabel Gallego, Ray Palaganas, Pedro Valdivia and Manolo Rodriguez and with a nett 63.5 Team Perez: Salvador Parra, Mari Carmem Perez, Vicenta Collado, Fernando Mas. Team Cooper with a nett score of 63.6 just missed out on the prizes. Asle-Jorgen Schultz and David Salgo won the Nearest the Pin prizes on the 3rd and 16th holes respectively.

With an excellent field of 92 players the CLG Monthly Texas Scramble was a huge success. Oliva Nova was in fine form and the course played very well. Thanks to everyone who took part, Oliva Nova for the super lunch, to our Sponsors and to all joined us for lunch.
We had a real mix of golfers with many different nationalities - this was fabulous for golf and the competition. Here are the results, all scores are nett. Taking the top spot with a score of 57.4 David Gardner Brown, Andy King, Mike Boyle and Toni Gil. Second place was closely contented by the Spanish team of Juan Del Olmo, Jose Nacher, Matilde Lloret and Jesus Lloret and Brits, Rosie Downham, Colin Cooper, Denise Cooper and Mark Reynolds but the Spanish took it scoring 59.0, the Brits registered 59.5 and came third. Fourth place scoring 61.8 went to the familiar names of Errol Heath, John Beavis, Pam Beavis and Dave Thomas. Manuel Rodriquez and Colin Cooper won the Nearest the Pin Prizes on the 3rd and 16th Holes respectively.
Our next scheduled Texas Scramble at La Sella, 30th October has been cancelled due to the Course being fully booked by a large party from Iceland therefore our next Texas Scramble will be, once again, at Oliva Nova Sunday 27th November. Shotgun Start 09.45 hrs, cost 50€ per golfer including lunch, buggy cost is 24€ and lunch only option is 15€. All Welcome. A hot muggy day and 46 players were ready to play the CLG Texas Scramble at La Sella Golf Resort, Jesus Pobre. Thanks also to La Sella Golf for providing a lovely lunch for players and guests. We had a great field with some superb scores and now, because of the new CLG TS handicap system, most months we have different team winners and this trend should continue to open up the field. Team Winners with a nett 60 points: Kevin Waterford, Martin Shaw, Ben Ganzeboom and Michelle Peset-Bijleveld. Second with a nett 62.4, Mark Thorman, Campbell Lamont, Calum Lamont & Keith Badley. Sunday, 31st July and the 27 teams of four golfers taking part in the CLG Texas Scramble headed out to face the heat and a course in excellent condition. Thank you to Oliva Nova for providing a superb lunch for 140 people and to Estrella Levante for providing the winners lovely prizes.
First place with a nett score of 55.2 Nico Lubig, Mick Tracy, David Tracy and Nathan Tracy. Second place, nett 58.2, Team Lloret and third place Team Abarca, nett 59.1. Sunday, 26th June and the Campbell Lamont Golf Texas Scramble returned once again to La Sella Golf, Jesus Pobre. The forecast was for sun, sun and more sun so with plenty of bottles of water in the buggies and lotion slapped on various parts of the body, 22 teams of 4 golfers headed out for 18 holes of great golf and a lot of fun. Thank you to La Sella Golf for providing a superb lunch and to Campbell and Nordic Mist for the after lunch refreshment of Gin and Tonic.

Sunday, 29th May and the Campbell Lamont Golf Texas Scramble returned, once again, to Oliva Nova Golf, Oliva. The forecast was miserable but thankfully the weather held and everyone returned to the Club House dry, hot, ready for lunch and a little light refreshment! Merci beaucoup to Oliva Nova Golf for providing an absolutely superb lunch that had a distinctive "French" flavour. Although having recently been hollow tined, the course played well and the scores were impressive with all 19 teams of 4 golfers coming in under par.

The second CLG Texas Scramble event at La Sella Golf, Jesus Pobre, took place on Sunday 20th March amid the most glorious sunshine. The original 18 holes were played by 16 teams of 4 enthusiastic golfers. A Shotgun start at 9am commenced proceedings on the beautifully manicured and laid out course at La Sella, the fairways were in excellent condition with greens that were fast and smooth.
Despite its Championship credentials, La Sella offered up some truly competitive net scores. The prize-winning teams in order were, First with a score of 58.9, Carlos Cuartero, Jose Luis Gil, Miguel Angel Sanchez and Miguel Angel Ribes. Second with 61.8 were, John Lamont, Campbell Lamont, Calum Lamont and Keith Badely. Third with 61.9 were, Antonio Hernandez, Alberti Marti, Andreau Mari and Antonio Aznar. Nearest the Pins on holes 5 and 15, were won by Antonion Hernandez and Jose Luis Gils respectively.
Many thanks to La Sella for presenting the course in such a wonderful condition and for providing an excellent lunch which everyone attending felt was great value for money. After a fabulous week of great weather the first CLG Texas Scramble at La Sella Golf Resort on Sunday 27th February started with large rain filled clouds overhead but that did not put off our 14 teams of golfers, some of whom turned up in shorts, as we headed out onto the golf course. With a clever system for teeing off, a Shotgun start on the new 9 holes was achieved followed by a "back 9" on holes 1-9 of the original course. The threatening rain arrived together with a cold, biting wind which must have frozen a few players but you know what they say "the sun shines on the righteous" and by midday the sun was breaking through warming everyone up. The Texas Scramble ended on a really high note with some great scores and thanks to our excellent Sponsors and La Sella Golf Resort the event was deemed a huge success. The Tapas were served and the drinks were flowing before we proceeded to the prize giving. The team of Rafael, Maria Luisa, Ester and Carla Herrero were pronounced winners and received the superb prizes provided by our Sponsor Estrella Levante followed closely in second by the team of Carmela Garcia Varela, Pedro Alonso, Paquita Jiménez and Ma Dolores Sánchez. Nearest the Pin on the 5th and 9th holes were won by Ruud Hinse and Paquita Jiménez respectively. Nordic Mist then served free ice cold Gin & Tonics on the terrace to end the day.
