An outstanding performance by young Liam Glennie saw him take top spot when returning a brilliant stableford score of 41 points on the day. Living proof that you don’t have to be a 6ft giant to play this game well, this Ian Woosnam impersonator made light work of possibly the most demanding golf course on the Costa Blanca and with the CBA coming in at ‘0’resulted in a full shot off of his 11 handicap to 10 … next stop single figures.
The next best scores went to Division 2 players David Lesbirel (18.6), John Wesley (19.3) and Chris Eccleston (22.2) all returning par beating 38points … countback put David ahead of John for the prizes with the unfortunate Chris just missing out.
In form Hans Benzler’s 35 points won the Division 1 category flying the flag for Sweden just beating Alan Fullwood by 1 point.
All the par 3’s proved difficult on the day and there were only 2 x 2’s recorded, both on the difficult 13th and achieved by Marleen Staelen and Bert Damsteeg. Analysis of this hole reveals the rest of the field returned only 3 pars along with 17 bogeys, 16 double bogeys and 9 more ‘others’ making their birdies look particularly good.
